The Call of the Monochrome is Strong

Dave · March 21, 2022 · Leave a Comment

It feels like I’ve really hit a groove with shooting in black and white. I’ve been shooting and converting the photographs I take to black and white since almost the beginning of the year and when you start to shoot with a black and white JPG preview in camera and use a preset in Lightroom as a starting point, I don’t need to see a colour file.

It makes me feel more in tune with what I’m trying to do with regards shooting just in black and white, and the whole process feels more integrated to how I want to shoot photography right now.

It has made me start to think about dipping toes into a purely monochrome camera, as I think that would take away even more choices than I have at present and help me to focus even more on the photography, rather than the gear and editing.

I don’t under estimate the size of the task needed to do this – or indeed the budget. Having shot with my Leica M10-P for over two and a half years now, my initial thinking is to look harder at the M10 Monochrome.

I really enjoy the experience of shooting with the M10. It’s not the most simple system to use and for some of what I shoot (mainly woodland & landscape) it does have it’s limitations, however the experience of using is something quite special.

The other option would be to look harder at the Q2 Monochrom.
