We decided almost 12 months ago we were going to go for a ‘snow’ holiday somewhere. Somewhere we could unwind after the Christmas and New Year, giving us a time to chill out and relax and in truth do very little.
Filzmoos in Austria was recommended to us as the perfect place. A small town around an hour from Salzburg which albeit very popular with people who love skiing in Filzmoos, held a balloon festival in January with a ‘night of the balloons festival’ being the highlight, where lots of people gathered and the balloons were set up with the burners glowing bright in the dark lighting up the balloons. Unfortunately for us, this proved a bit of a wash out as it was too windy for the balloons to be set up… much to the disappointment of lots of people who had braved the journey in very icy conditions to see it.
Filzmoos was the perfect place just to relax and chill. We tried our hand at skiing which is certainly more difficult than it looks, my daughter had a couple of days in ski school and learnt the basics, however she wasn’t able to pass any of those new learnt skills on to my Wife or me! Still the sight of us spending quite a bit of time looking very awkward and falling over certainly kept us entertained.
So, will we go back – for sure! We’re already planning a trip next year when we can ski! It’s a great remedy after Christmas and with the people of Filzmoos being so accommodating as they are and the beautiful surrounding countryside there’s little reason not to!
As a documentary wedding Photographer using the camera through the week wasn’t top of the list but the little Fuji X100F I picked up just before Christmas was the perfect partner, and for sure it’ll be featuring in some of my wedding work this year.
