I really love my Billingham camera bags. I think I’ve had three now, each providing just that right mix of what I want from a bag. Good looks, excellent protection for my equipment, and of course durability beyond the call of duty in some instances. They provide excellent resistance to all types of weather, and function just as they need to.
However my head was turned this week with a camera bag which allows me even more freedom than my current Billingham, a Hadley large. With the recent purchase of a Fuji X100s I’ve been looking for something small and easy to use, which still offers all of the qualities the Billingham’s I’ve owned provide. At first I looked at a smaller Billingham bag, but in truth I was seeking something a little smaller and, well a little less camera bag looking.
Enter Millican bags. A UK manufacturer of premium quality camera bags based in the North of England with a range of bags that has more than a nod to traditional design. Along with a wide range of rucksacks and messenger style bags, Millican also manufacture a small (almost half sized) messenger style bag intriguingly named Robert the Camera Bag. Made from 100% organic cotton canvas, Robert is the ideal size for a small compact sized camera such as the X100s, together with the other bits and pieces you may need throughout a day, such as your tablet, notebook etc.
It also comes complete with a removable camera protector which provides an ideal housing to keep your camera in when in the bag. With multiple pockets, including a zipped one, pen loops and a good sized wide shoulder strap this is a bag which can be used comfortably all day, no doubt about it.
I decided on the grey blue colour option as it again fits in with the non-camera bag looks. So far, I’m loving the look and feel of Robert, the true test will be when I’m out and about with it. Certainly a small sized camera bag means more options for carrying it on a day to day basis, with the added benefit of the looks of a normal messenger style bag, it’s ideal as to not mark you out as a Photographer in areas you don’t want to draw attention to yourself.
If you’re in the market for a camera bag, large or small, then why not take a closer look at the Millican range.
