For almost as long as I’ve been interested in photography, Kodak Portra 400 has been one of those film emulsions I’ve loved. I really love the colours and the clean look you can get from it.
However, I’ve never actually shot a roll of it before and only ever tried to emulate it with digital simulation which I don’t believe you can replicate totally. Sure you can get close but you can’t replicate it completely.
So armed with my trusty Nikon F80 and a roll, here’s the best 10 from my first ever roll of Portra 400. I purposely set out to over-expose a little by setting the ISO in camera to 200 and not ‘box speed’ of 400 and they seemed to have come out pretty well. I’m pretty pleased with what I’ve got from that first roll and for sure, there will be many more!
